On Monday September 12, 2022, multi-factor authentication (MFA) using DUO will be enabled for both campus learning management systems used for academic instruction, GauchoSpace and Canvas. Provided you have already set up MFA/Duo for use with other applications (e.g., Google Workspace, UCPath, Kronos, Student Health Services Patient Portal), there is nothing new you need to do.
Why DUO MFA?
UCSB is in the process of rolling out DUO MFA for all applications that store sensitive UCSB information and accounts, including student grade data. MFA helps prevent malicious actors access this data.
Already using Duo?
If you have recently logged in to Google Workspace, UCPath, Kronos Timekeeping, or the Student Health Services Patient Portal, you likely are already set up with Duo and familiar with how simple it is to authorize authentication.
New to Duo?
If you have never used Duo or want additional information about MFA, please visit: https://www.it.ucsb.edu/mfa. Please note the "Quick Links" section on the right side of the screen where you can enroll and Test Your MFA Device: https://www.it.ucsb.edu/mfa/testing-your-mfa-device. While this test is against a generic website, it will confirm that you have everything in place for using MFA with GauchoSpace or Canvas.
