GauchoCast is a video hosting website that processes and stores video media. These videos can be distributed to students enrolled in your course through Canvas. This article walks through how to:
- Add GauchoCast to a Canvas Course
- Provision GauchoCast and Add videos in Canvas
- Embed GauchoCast videos in Canvas Pages, Announcements, Discussions and other locations that support Canvas' text editor
- Add a GauchoCast video to a Module
Here's how to add GauchoCast to your Canvas course:
1. Log in to Canvas and navigate to your course site.
2. Click Settings in the left-hand navigation. Then, select the Navigation tab.
3. Find GauchoCast in the bottom hidden-tab section. Drag-and-drop it to the course navigation area at the top to make it visible to students.
4. Click Save. You will now see GauchoCast in the left-hand navigation.
Once you have added GauchoCast to your Canvas course, you can provision the course folder and add videos through these steps here:
1. Log in to Canvas and navigate to your course site.
2. In the left-hand navigation, click GauchoCast.
3. This provisions and takes you directly to the GauchoCast course folder. This folder is shared with everyone enrolled in the Canvas course.

- Students are able to access any videos added to this folder.
GauchoCast videos can be embedded in any Canvas area with a text editor. This includes Pages, Announcements, and Discussions. Here's how:
1. Open up the Page, Announcement, Discussion, etc where you wish to embed the video
2. In the text editor, click on the green GauchoCast icon
3. Your GauchoCast account will appear. You can:
- Choose an existing recording. Select the video you wish to embed.
- Upload a video file from your computer. (Supported file types can be found here.)
- Record your own video.
4. Choose your embedded player preferences under Video Embed Options. Then, click Insert.

Aspect Ratio, Width and Height: The aspect ratio is the proportional relationship between the video's height and width. Choose from 16:9 (default), 4:3, or Custom. If you select 16:9 or 4:3, the height will change automatically based on the width. If you select a custom aspect ratio, you can adjust the width and height independently.

Start At (in seconds): The time in the video where playback will start.

Interactivity: Choose from All, Search and Rating Only, or None.

All will allow a student to search within the video, rate the video, access the table of contents, make notes, and add discussion posts

Search and Rating Only will allow a student to search through the video and rate it but not access the other interactive features

None removes all interactive features

Autoplay: Select to have the video begin playing automatically when the page loads.

Enable 'Watch in Panopto': Select to allow videos to open the video in Panopto

Show Title: Select to display the video title at the top of the player.

Show Logo: Select to display GauchoCast's embedded logo in the video player.

Show Captions: Select to display captions in the video player.
5. The video will then be embedded into the text box.
Here's how to add a GauchoCast video to a module:
1. Click on the plus sign in the top right of the Module you want to add the video to:
2. In the pop-up window use the drop-down to select External Tool. Then, select GauchoCast from the options below.
3. Select the radio button next to the recording you want to add and click Insert
4. Click Add Item in the bottom left. Be sure to publish the link if you want to make it visible to students.
