This article provides an overview of the newly added functions and display features on the GauchoSpace homepage.
Card view
Moving forward, the new default display view of the "Course Overview" section is the "card" style display on your dashboard.
If you are more accustomed to the previous "list" view and would prefer to maintain that format, click on "Card" in the upper right corner and select "List" from the drop-down menu.
Below is the list view:
By default, GauchoSpace will generate a course card with a randomly select official UCSB color and pattern. Instructors and Editing TAs can customize the course card for a course by uploading a picture to display as the course card.
To upload a course card image go to the Administration block in the course and click on Edit settings.
Under the Description setting locate the Course image setting, either click on the page icon to use the file picker to locate the file you would like to display for the course card or drag and drop a file into the files area.
Note: We recommend using a JPEG or PNG file
After uploading a file scroll to the bottom of the page and click "Save and display". The uploaded image will then appear as the course for the course.
In the new GauchoSpace, the user can customize the display of the courses by using the "filter" function. The default view mode is: "All (except removed from view)":
When clicking on the Display filter, five different categories show up as a dropdown menu. "In Progress, Future, and Past" are categories based on the time you took or taught the course(s), while "Starred" and "Removed from view" categories are customizable, based on your selection. For time-based filters (i.e., In Progress, Future, and Past), the courses will be displayed based on each course start and end dates, which are automatically set for quarterly academic course sites.
On the new GauchoSpace, you can do a quick search of a course by its course name using the quick course search box.
Note: the quick search will only search based on the selected filter.
Starred
One of the new features of our updated GauchoSpace is the "Starred" function. For each course, when you click on the 3 horizontal dots next to the course name, a drop-down appears allowing you to "star the course" or "remove from view."
Once the course is starred, this course will appear in the Starred section block. Note: If it is your first time starring a course, and would like to have a section on your dashboard with all your starred courses, you must add the Starred block, which will be discussed in the section below.
Remove from View
Aside from Starring a course, another option is the "Remove from view." To do so, click on the 3 horizontal dots, and from the dropdown menu, click "Remove from view."
If you'd like to see and/or bring that removed course back to view, click on the "Filter" and select "Removed from view."
From here, you can click on the specific course you'd like to restore to the main Course overview page, where all the rest of the courses are displayed.
As a GauchoSpace user, you can customize your dashboard by adding a block, changing the order of sections, and delete or hide section block.
You can customize your user dashboard by clicking on the yellow button "Customize page" on top of the page:
Add a block
To add a block, such as to display the Starred courses block, scroll down to go to the "Add a block" section on the right corner of the page:
A dropdown menu listing all the blocks that can be added on your user dashboard are listed here:
Moving a block
To move a block click on "Customize this page" then click on the compass arrow icon for the blog and drag it to where you would like it to appear. You can drag blocks to the center or to the right side of the screen where they appear by default.
Deleting a block
To delete a block click on "Customize this page" then click on the gear icon for the block you would like to delete, then click on the option for deleting the block from the drop-down menu.
Additional Blocks
Recently Accessed Items & Courses
Aside from the Starred courses block, there are other blocks you can add through "Add a block," such as the "Recently accessed items" and "Recently accessed courses."
Under the "Recently accessed items" block, users are able to see the last items or modules that were clicked and accessed since the last log in into GauchoSpace. Similarly, under the "Recently accessed courses" block, the last accessed courses will show up here in a 'card' style display.
