What is the difference between GauchoCast & Panopto?
GauchoCast and Panopto are two integrated services that help users record and upload videos to GauchoSpace.
Panopto is the UCSB recommended video recording software. Users download this program onto their individual computers and create lecture recordings. Panopto can capture and record webcam video feeds, computer desktop activities (including PowerPoint & Keynote presentations), as well as microphone audio sources. If you are an instructor or TA, you can download Panopto directly from the GauchoCast site: https://gauchocast.hosted.panopto.com/
GauchoCast is the online component of Panopto. GauchoCast is a video hosting website that processes and stores video media. Audio and video sources recorded via the Panopto application are uploaded to the GauchoCast server where they are processed into viewable videos on the site’s web-player. Individual video files saved on your computer’s hard drive can also be uploaded to the GauchoCast site for viewing and distribution. The GauchoCast site also features editing options, embedded quizzes, and discussion threads for all uploaded videos.
