To provide extended timing and scheduling options for students who require DSP accommodation, either create individual overrides for specific students or create a group of students with DSP accommodation requirements and then set a group override. If you have sections or plan to use groups in other activities, please place your sections/other groups in their own grouping and apply them to those activities. This will help maintain privacy of DSP student accommodations should groups be used and/or displayed in other activities. For more information on groups and groupings, visit this article: Groups and Groupings
This article will focus on steps to help set up these accommodations.
- Log in to GauchoSpace and enter your course site.
- Click Turn editing on.
- Enter the quiz in which you would like to grant another attempt.
- In the Quiz Administration block, click User Overrides.
- Click Add user override.
- Search for the user who needs additional attempts, then highlight the name of that user when it appears in the search results.

7. To allow extended time: change the open and/or close date of the quiz if necessary. Adjust the time limit as necessary for the student to complete the quiz.
9. When finished, click Save. If you need to add additional attempts for multiple students, click Save and enter another override.

To create a group:
1. Log in to GauchoSpace and enter your course site.
2. In the Administration block, click Users, then click Groups.
3. Click Create Group.

4. Give the group a name, for example, "Special Accommodation."
5. Click Save Changes.

6. Repeat steps 3-5 until you have created all desired groups.
Add users to a group
1. In the Groups area, find the group into which you would like to add users, and single-click on that group to highlight it.
2. Click Add/remove users button.

3. In the next window, you will see all of the course participants (students, TAs and instructors) in the Potential members list. Click on a name to highlight it.
Tip: To select multiple users from the Potential Members list press the CTRL (PC) or the Command (Mac) button on your keyboard as you click each person's name.
If a user is already in a group, it will show that in the Selected user's membership section, to the right of the Potential members box.
4. Click the Add button to add selected users to the group.

5. Repeat for all groups until you have put every student into a group.
To create a grouping:
Groupings are collections of groups ("groups of groups"). Your course may contain sections or groups that will be used in other activities. As a best practice, we recommend that you always configure a grouping containing the DSP group(s) and a grouping for the remaining sections/groups. To create a grouping, follow these steps:
- Log in to GauchoSpace and enter your course site.
- In the Administration block, click on Users, then click Groups.
- Click on the Groupings tab.
- Click on Create Grouping.
- Name the grouping (e.g. "Assignment 1 Grouping").
- Click Save changes.
Now that you have created the grouping, you would need to add the groups to your grouping. The grouping should only include those manually-created or auto-created groups that are relevant to this specific assignment. To add groups to the grouping, follow these steps:
- Edit the grouping by clicking the people icon on the right side under edit.
- Highlight a group you want to add to the grouping and then click “Add.”
- Once you are done adding all the groups, click on “Back to Groupings."
- To display groups, add the Group Member Resource to your page.
Now, you will need to set a Group override for this new Group. To set a group override, please follow these steps:
In the activity administration block, instructors may allow an extension or additional attempts for individual students by completing the following steps:
- Log in to GauchoSpace and enter your course site.
- Click Turn editing on.
- Enter the activity in which you would like to grant an extension or different due date.
- In the Administration block, click User Overrides or Group Overrides. If your course has sections, sections are referred to as Groups in GauchoSpace.
- Click Add user override (or Group override).
- Search for the user or group (section) that needs extended time, then highlight the name of that user or group when it appears in the dropdown.
- Adjust the quiz settings as needed for this student. You can change the open or close date/time, or the amount of time allowed on the quiz.
- When finished, click Save. If you need to add extended time for multiple students, click Save and enter another override.
