In the Assignment Activity, most file submissions are visible online in the same window as the grading interface without having to download the files to your computer. For file types that are not visible in the grading viewer, (For example, .pages) you still have the option to download them.
- Log in to GauchoSpace and enter your course site.
- In the Activities block click Assignments, then click on the name of the assignment (or, click the name of the assignment from the main course site page).
- Click Grade.
- In this screen, you are able to view and annotate the PDF, using the PDF editor on the left, and grade the assignment using the grading panel on the right. Navigational links are located at the top of the screen - click the arrows on the top right to switch between students. After you are done grading each assignment, click Save changes.
- For more information on using the PDF editor, see
To return to the main assignment page or your course site, use the links at the top left.
If you have sections for your course, groups will automatically be created corresponding to your sections and assignment will be sortable by default according to these groups.
To sort submissions by section/group:
1. Click on the name of the assignment to enter it.
2. At the top left corner, use the "Separate groups" drop-down to filter assignments by section/group.
3. Click the "Grade" button. This will then take you to the grading interface where you see only the submissions for the selected section.
1. Open the assignment
2. Select "View all submissions".
3. Use the "Separate groups" drop-down in the top right to sort by a particular section/group.
4. Then use the "Grading action" drop-down menu to select "Snappy (Download all submissions)". You will then have a download of all submissions by students in the selected section/group.
If you don't have pre-set section groups, you can create them manually by following the instructions outlined on this help page Setting up Groups and Groupings.
You are still able to grade submissions (including online text) using the default expanded grading panel view.
- Log in to GauchoSpace and enter your course site.
- In the Activities block click Assignments, then click on the name of the assignment (or, click the name of the assignment from the main course site page).
- Click Grade.
- This view will show the assignment submission in the Submission area. You may click the link in the Submission area to download the file(s) submitted. If online text is submitted, it will also appear in the Submission area - click the plus icon to see the full text.
- The grade for each assignment is entered into the Grade area, and below that, you may choose to leave Feedback comments in the text box. Note: The ability to enter feedback is a setting in assignments (on by default). If the setting is off, you will not be able to add feedback.
- If desired, you may upload files containing feedback for the assignment in the Feedback files area.
- Click Save changes when you have finished grading each student. Use the navigation arrows at the top right to switch between students, or the links at the top left to exit the grading interface.
If you prefer a faster way of inputting grades for multiple students in an assignment, and do not wish to view or annotate submissions online, you may want to download all assignment files to your computer, then enter the "View all submissions" screen where all students can be graded on one page.
- Log in to GauchoSpace and enter your course site.
- In the Activities block click Assignments, then click on the name of the assignment (or, click the name of the assignment from the main course site page).
- Click View all submissions.
- This will take you to a screen where you are able to see all students and their submissions on one page.
- Scroll down to the bottom of the screen and click the Quick grading check-box, which will enable you to enter grades down the grade column for each student. If feedback is enabled, you can also enter feedback comments in the column to the right.
- Click the Save all quick grading changes button at the bottom of the screen when you have finished grading.
Warning: When uploading feedback files, note that the drop-down menu at the bottom of the "View all submissions" page contains three options: Lock submissions, Unlock submissions, and Send feedback files. When multiple names are selected (using the check box to the left of the student name), and “Send feedback files” is selected from the drop-down, this will send the same feedback file to multiple people. This is not how you would upload multiple files meant for respective students, which you can learn how to do here. It may be useful for group assignments where several students will receive the same feedback, but otherwise may result in one student’s feedback being inadvertently made available to multiple students.
