Canvas Discussions & Announcements have a new updated design starting in Summer 2024 courses. Below is more information on the coming changes and enhancements.

- Flexible Viewing Options: Participants can choose to view replies either inline or split-screen.

- Expanded or Collapsed Threads: By default, reply threads are collapsed. Participants can choose to expand all threads (or collapse them all) with a new menu item.
- Sort and Filter Discussions: Newest replies display at the top of the first page instead of the bottom of the last page. Participants can sort replies from newest to oldest, or oldest to newest as well as filter by "Unread".
New features include:
- Anonymous discussions – When setting up a discussion, instructors can choose to enable anonymous discussions:
- Mentions – Participants can now mention other classmates in replies by using the @ symbol.
- Role - Discussions posts now have an icon to indicate the author's role if it is written by an Instructor or TA in the course.
- Quoted replies – Participants can easily quote other replies as part of their discussion reply.
Current Limitations include:
- Group Discussions are more difficult to navigate too.
