There are times when students need additional accommodations required by the DSP program or in times when unexpected emergencies or illness occur. Instructors may allow allow extensions or additional quiz attempts for individual students by following these following steps:
- Log in to GauchoSpace and enter your course site.
- Enter the quiz in which you would like to grant another attempt.
- In the Quiz Administration block, click User Overrides.
- Click Add user override.
- Search for the student. Then, select the name of that user when it appears in the search results.
- Update the override settings:
-
- To allow extended time: change the open and/or close date of the quiz if necessary. Adjust the time limit as necessary for the student to complete the quiz.
- To allow additional attempts: Use the Attempts allowed drop-down menu to select the number of attempts you wish to offer this student.
-
- When finished, click Save. If you need to add additional overrides for other students, click Save and enter another override.
8. If you would like for students' attempts to build off their initial or previous attempt, after setting the override/s, go back to the quiz settings, under the Question behaviors section, and click See more. Change Each attempt builds on the last to "Yes", then click on Save and return to course.
In cases of internet issues or outages, a student's incomplete attempt may be submitted automatically if time expires. When this happens, the instructor may want to allow the student additional time to complete their quiz. Although GauchoSpace does not allow a submitted attempt to be reopened, the instructor can allow the student an additional attempt and build on the answers from their incomplete attempt. Here's how to do that:
- Follow the instructions in steps 1–5 above to select the student who will receive the additional attempt.
- Update the override settings:
- Update the Open the quiz and Close the quiz time
- Set the time limit for the additional amount of time you wish to grant the student
- Set Attempts allowed to "2"
- Click Save.
- Next, in the Quiz Administration block on the right, click Edit Settings.
- Under the Question Behavior subsection, click See more.
- Change Each attempt builds on the last to "Yes"
- Click Save and return to course.
- The student can now take the quiz again. Their second attempt will have access to all their previously saved answers. This way, they can spend time on the questions they didn't answer the first time.
- Be sure to choose the correct attempt for that specific student when grading.
