How do I create/access the Virtual Lab?

How to create a Virtual Lab

Instructors:

  1. Log in to GauchoSpace and enter your course site.
  2. Click Turn editing on.
  3. In the week/topic where you would like the link for the Virtual Lab to appear, click Add an activity or resource link. Select Virtual Lab and click Add.
  4. You will be taken to the Virtual Lab settings page. Name the Virtual Lab, keeping in mind the name of the Virtual Lab is what students will click on.
  5. Use the drop-down menu next to the "Virtual Labs Applications" heading to select the desired VCL image, or leave it at Default Applications.
  6. Click Save and Return to Course.
  7. You will see the Virtual Lab link appear in the week/topic that you chose.

How to access the Virtual Lab

**MAC users: You must first find online and download a free remote desktop client. For example, the Microsoft Remote Desktop App for Mac.

Students and Instructors:

  1. Log in to GauchoSpace and enter your course site.
  2. Click on the link to the Virtual Lab that your Instructor/TA has created.
  3. You will be taken to the current reservation page. Please wait about 30 seconds while your reservation is pending.
  4. Select the Connect! button.
  5. Click, Get RDP File.
  6. Once the file has downloaded, open the file. This should start your Remote Desktop Client.
  7. A security window may appear asking for your permission. Please click continue and/or allow the security exception.
  8. Select your username and enter the password found on the Connect! page.

  9. You should now be taken into the virtual lab interface. This should be a window on your computer that looks like a regular Windows desktop computer.
    • **NOTE: Make sure to save your work and either email it to yourself when you have finished, or save it to a local drive on the computer you are using. If you do not do this you will LOSE YOUR DATA.**
  10. When you are finished using the virtual lab please click End to close your session.
