When taking a quiz, follow these recommendations to ensure a successful submission.
Recommendations Before the quiz
Know the quiz’ due date and time and check if there are availability dates in place (information about availability dates here). If the quiz has availability dates in place and the availability date has passed, the quiz will be locked and you will not be able to submit it. Avoid completing the quiz close to when it's due to ensure that you can get the necessary technical support if anything comes up.
Use Google Chrome when accessing Canvas and taking the exam. Make sure your browser is up to date. We recommend that students do not use the Safari browser due to a number of known issues with the browser.
Establish and test your internet connection before the exam start-time and ensure that you have a charged or plugged device.
If taking a quiz at UCSB, please connect to the Eduram network.
Use a laptop computer or a desktop computer for a better user experience.
Recommendations During the Quiz
Open the quiz and read the quiz settings: due date and availability dates, time limit, and allowed attempts. If any of these elements are missing, they might not be in place for that specific quiz.
Read the instructions carefully before taking the quiz.
Click Take the Quiz to start taking the quiz. Note that if the quiz is timed, the countdown will begin as soon as you click this button.
Take the quiz in only one tab and only one device. Do not open multiple tabs to answer the questions and do not open the quiz on multiple devices.
You will see the timer on the top right if the quiz is timed. You will get a warning when you have 1 minute remaining in your quiz time. If you exit a timed quiz before submitting it, the timer will continue running until the time is up. When the time is up the quiz will auto-submit.
If you exit a quiz before submitting it, you may resume it where you left off by returning to the quiz and clicking Resume Quiz.
When resuming a quiz, you may identify the questions that have not yet been answered by looking at the question list on the right sidebar. A question mark next to the question means that you have not answered the question, and a checkmark next to the question means that the question has been already answered.
The quiz might display all questions together or one question at a time. In the latter cases, move through the questions using the Previous and Next buttons underneath. If there is no Previous button available, it means that instructors have locked the questions and you may not be allowed to go back and change your answer.
Once you answered all the questions, click Submit Quiz to submit your quiz and finish. Note that timed quizzes will automatically submit if the quiz time has finished and you have not submitted the quiz yet.
Recommendations After the Quiz
If more than one attempt is allowed, you may submit a new attempt by going to the quiz and clicking Take the Quiz Again. Note that instructors will set what quiz score to record. You can find this information for a quiz at the right sidebar.
For a quiz submission confirmation, click on the quiz. If the quiz has been submitted, the quiz page will display to the right the Submission Details and the Attempt History in the middle of the page. Note that scores might be hidden per the instructor's preference.
