Courses migrated automatically from GauchoSpace to Canvas contain a "template" home page that contains a stock image, course name, and links to shortcuts of existing modules:
This article covers how instructors can customize their home page, including how to:
- Replace the stock image
- Add and edit text
- Add, edit, and remove a course module link
Note: Canvas provides five different layout options for the Home Page; the templated option shown above is a variation of the "Pages Front Page" option. Instructors can change their Course Home Page (depending on their preferences) through these steps here: How do I change the Course Home Page?
1. From the course's Home tab, click Edit:
2. Click on the image to select it. You should see it is outlined in a blue box with squares in each corner:
3. Use the Delete key on your keyboard to remove the image from the page.
4. To add your own image, click the image button from the Rich Content Editor. Then, click Upload Image:
5. Drag and drop the image or click to browse your computer files and select the image you want to add (Alternatively, you could click on the URL tab and paste in the image URL):
6. Enter Alt Text or mark the image as a Decorative Image. When ready, click Submit.
7. Your new image will now appear in the text editor. When finished making changes to the page, scroll down to the bottom and click Save:
1. From the course's Home tab, click Edit:
2. Type, copy, or delete text directly into the text box:
3. Use the Rich Content Editor above the text box to modify and format your text, as desired.

4. After making changes, scroll down to the bottom and click Save:
Here's how to add, edit, and delete a course module link on your Home page:
1. From the course's Home tab, click Edit:
2. In the provided list, type in the text that you want students to click on.
3. Highlight the text you added in step 2. From the Rich Content Editor at the top, click the link icon. Then, click Course link (Or, alternatively, click Insert > Link > Course Link):
4. A pop-up should appear on the right hand side. Click Modules to expand the menu to list the course modules. Then, click on the module you want to link. (Note, the module must be published in order to students to access it.)
5. The text you highlighted will now appear as a hyperlink. Scroll down to the bottom and click Save:
1. From the course's Home tab, click Edit:
2. Click on the hyperlink you want to edit. In the generated pop-up, click Link Options.
3. A pop-up should appear on the right hand side. Edit the Text field with the desired module name. Then, click Done.
4. Your hyperlink will now display with your desired text. Scroll down to the bottom and click Save:
