The Microsoft Student Advantage program is an enterprise agreement between Microsoft and UCSB which allows actively enrolled students to download and install Microsoft Office 365 ProPlus desktop applications at no cost. Office 365 ProPlus is the new name for Microsoft Office for Students.
Once you are no longer a registered student, your Microsoft Office 365 ProPlus subscription will end. You will have the opportunity at that time to enroll in other available consumer or commercial offers.
To be able to use Office 365 you must download the software to your computer. Once you download the software you can install it. It should be noted that online use of the Microsoft Office applications is not currently available for the student plan. The following shows you the steps to download the package for installation:
-
- Go to your Office account https://www.office.com/. Select the "Sign in" option.
- You will login with your NetID@ucsb.edu and the password you have established for UCSB services. Once you have entered your NetID@ucsb.edu the page should prompt you to enter your password into a UCSB portal.
- In the upper-right hand corner, click Install. You can Install Office 365 on up to 5 devices, and you can manage them all from this page.
- This pop-up screen will appear detailing installation instructions.
- To run the file, find the downloaded file in your 'Downloads' folder. Double-click the file.
- Once the application has finished installing, this image will appear on the screen.
- You now have access to all Office 365 applications. The first time you launch an application, make sure to accept the Microsoft Office License Agreement.
- Go to your Office account https://www.office.com/. Select the "Sign in" option.
If you have previously logged into Microsoft Office using NetID@ucsb.edu and are having difficulty accessing Office 365 applications, first log out of all Microsoft Office accounts. Then, open a private or incognito browser and log into https://www.office.com/ through the incognito browser.
If you are still having difficulty logging into Microsoft Office or are having difficulty accessing the Office 365 applications, please submit a helpdesk ticket, email us at help@lsit.ucsb.edu, or give us a call at (805)893-HELP (4357).
